Quartzsite — Veteran's Memorial Freedom Garden
Veteran's Memorial Freedom Garden
Recently, “A Friend in Arizona” (AFIA) visited the Veterans Memorial Freedom Garden in Quartzsite, Arizona. The site contains a pair of McDonnell Douglas RF-4C-28-MC “Phantom IIs”, AF 65-0941 and AF 66-038. The Veterans Memorial Freedom Garden is located at the intersection of Plymouth Road and Quail Trail Street. A memorial plaque dedicated to the memory of M/Sgt. Arlo J. Markestad, is located at the base of the Freedom Garden's flagpole. AFIA sent us a very nice set of the following “walk-around” photos of both aircraft. The photos also include numerous close-ups of design details that modelers may find useful. We would also like to thank Mike Sampson for send us a great group photo of 65-0941 while on duty with the 7th TRS at Mountain Home AFB circa 1971.
