Issued during 1938 by the Joseph A. Pattreioux, Ltd., Manchester, England, these attractive B/W glossy airplane photo cards were issued with their SENIOR SERVICE Cigarettes. The photo cards concentrate on British civilian and military aircraft, their passenger airline industry, and notable aviation personalities of the mid to late 1930s. The card fronts feature high quality miniature black-and-white glossy aviation photos with a thin surround line, a white margin, and a brief card caption. The photos are mainly presented in a landscape format, with a few of the cards in the portrait format.
The card backs are presented in a portrait format printed with black ink. The card backs form a vertical stack: The title of the set; number of cards in the set; the individual card number; descriptive text: and the name of the product SENIOR SERVICE CIGARETTES. All of the text is enclosed in a rectangular two-box double-lined surround with and ample white margin. There is also a generic Senior Service Cigarettes album that can be used with the set. Details of the album are discussed further down.
