Overview
The Navy Aircraft SQUADRON INSIGNIA was a very popular card game during World War II. The 36 card game set was issued by the E. E. Fairchild Corporation of Rochester, New York as one of their ALL-FAIR Card Games. The set consisted of 17 pairs of Navy Squadron Insignia Cards plus one ENEMY card. The 36th card was a How to Play SQUADRON INSIGNIA card.
The fronts of the cards featured the Squadron Insignia of United States Navy Bombing, Fighting, Scouting and Torpedo Squadrons. The backs of the cards were all the same and featured a Consolidated PB2Y-2 Coronado.
Since the set was not a Gum issue, it was sold in variety stores as a stand-alone game. The game was packaged in a 4 × 5 × ⅞ inch box. The box featured color artwork of the same Consolidated PB2Y-2 Coronado used on the back of the cards. The American Card Catalog reference number for the set is R112-7.
How to Play SQUADRON INSIGNIA
In this game there are 17 pairs of cards and one odd card, the ENEMY. The two cards of the pair have the same insignia and numbers.
Shuffle the cards and deal one at a time, until they are all distributed. Then each player picks up his cards, matches as many pairs as possible lays them face up in front of him on the table. The dealer plays first by drawing one card from his right hand neighbor, and if possible, matches another pair. Then the player from whose hand the card has been drawn, in turn draws a card from the player on his right, also trying to match another pair. Thus the play continues until all pairs have been matched. The player left with the black airplane card in his hand is the ENEMY.
Add up your score from the table below. Player holding ENEMY card the deducts 50 planes from his total. Player was greatest number of enemy planes wins.
