Checklist: Checklist
The 1940 “Action Series” (V350) is a smaller 60-card cousin of Goudey’s 1938 (“Action Gum” (R1) 96-card set that was issued in the 1938-39 time-frame. The “lower-48” (№ 1-48) cards of the Canadian “Action Series” (V350) set use the same artwork and numbering as the American R1 set with some minor title changes in the card titles of #27, #34, and #44 (see checklist comparison below). However, the “upper-12” (№ 49-60) cards are completely different from the American R1 series. The artwork for the “Upper-12” is borrowed from Goudey’s (R50) “First Column Defenders” 24-card set. These cards are easily identified by their blue borders and a red semicircle at the top of the card. The red semicircle was used to mask the “First Column Defenders Shield” centered at the top of the R50 cards artwork. Unlike the American “Action Gum” (R1) series, the Canadian “Action Series” (V350) had no cards issued/numbered above 60. The card dimensions for the Canadian V350 series is the same as the American R1 series, 71.88 × 60.33 mm. The American Card Catalog reference number for the set is V350.
