Overview

This set of 21 airplane trading cards was issued by Flip-Cards, Inc., New York City. The copyright date does not appear on the cards, however, the XB-52 Boeing Heavy Bomber card indicates that the set most likely was issued prior to 1952. The XB-52 artwork shows the aircraft as a four-engine turboprop bomber, rather than the eight-engine turbojet aircraft that it was. The first photos and mention of the Boeing XB-52 appeared in the 1952-53 Jane’s All the World’s Aircraft.

The “Rocket Ships and Airplane Flip Cards” set was not issued as single cards, but was issued as an uncut sheet of 21 cards with a three card advertising panel. The uncut sheets were purchased for 10¢ from local 5¢ & 10¢ stores. The following advertising copy is from the advertising panel.
